Splendid is a partnership between Splendour in the Grass and leading regional and national art agencies looking to develop talent and to offer festival audiences new creative experiences.

Splendid presents a series of great opportunities for artists to create work for and with these audiences. However, the scale of a festival site, the lack of built infrastructure, the sonic environment and the roving nature of the audiences present particular challenges for creating artworks in this context.

The purpose of the Splendid program is to create a hot house incubator for creative possibilities; viewed within the context of a site specific music festival.

Splendid offers participating artists opportunities to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment that encourages critical thinking and experimentation.

The program is open to young and emerging artists (under 30 years old or in the first 5 years of their practice) who work in the visual arts, theatre, dance, design, installation, architecture, digital media, sound, text, community arts and other creative pursuits.

Splendid is a program in three parts:

1. Arts Lab - an intensive 2 week creative residency facilitated by leading local and international artists and provocateurs
2. Mentorship - artists receive guidance from provocateurs and feedback on project proposals
3. Commission - potential opportunity to produce a new work to be premiered at the Splendour In the Grass festival

Splendid is a platform for artists to generate new ideas and is an exceptional opportunity to develop their conceptual and production skills and connect with leading practitioners and presenters.
