SPLENDID offers an immerse lab based think-tank for collaborating with your peers and creative leaders

Arts Lab 2009

The 2009 Splendid program begins with an intensive laboratory styled residency that will take place over 3 weeks in July in Lismore NSW, and the Splendour in the Grass festival Byron Bay.

Up to 10 emerging artists will participate in the Lab facilitated by leading local and international artists and provocateurs, guided by a curatorium and supported by specialised production personnel.

The Splendid Arts Lab is an opportunity for each artist to extend their practice in a collaborative cross-artform environment. The program is open to artists working in diverse art forms including theatre, dance, design, visual arts, installation, architecture, digital media, sound, text, community arts and other creative pursuits.

The Labs are structured as immersive and exploratory playgrounds, designed to allow for a diverse range of artists to intersect, exchange and unfold ideas.

Collaborations and ideas conceived in the Arts Lab will enter a 6 month consultation and development period from July to December. Project proposals will then be submitted for inclusion in the 2010 Splendour in the Grass arts program and other promotional opportunities.

2009 Splendid Artists will:

  • Attend a 3 week residential Arts Lab from Monday 20 July to Friday 7 August 2009.
  • Acquire skills in cross-artform collaboration and creating site specific experiences.
  • Be provided an opportunity to produce a new work to be installed or performed at 2010 Splendour in the Grass festival.
  • Receive expert advise in developing a creative product that can be marketed to other festivals, events and performances across Australia and internationally.
  • Participate in artist talks and forums.
  • Receive tickets to Splendour in the Grass 2009.
