Arts Lab

The Lab was a fabulous journey for me both creatively and personally. It was a truly challenging, intense, fun, artistic experience but particularly, set up a fabulous new network of collaborators, friends and inspirations.
Kristy Ayre, Splendid Artist 2009

The Splendid 2010 program begins with an intensive Arts Lab residency that will take place over 2 weeks in Lismore NSW in July.

Up to 10 emerging artists will participate in the Lab made up of a series of workshops designed to encourage collaborations with their peers and the creation of new works.

The Lab will be facilitated by a carefully selected group of provocateurs - recognised senior practitioners from various art fields - who will both challenge the artists' boundaries and provide guidance and support throughout the process.

The Labs are structured as immersive and exploratory playgrounds, designed to allow for a diverse range of artists to intersect, exchange and unfold ideas.

Participating artists will work toward the common goal of creating works to be presented at Splendour in the Grass in 2011. As part of the Lab, artists will attend the festival to get a feel for the site and connect with the audience.

For the 6 months following the residency, artists will develop their ideas conceived in the Arts Lab into detailed proposals with the guidance of the provocateurs. Project proposals will then be submitted for inclusion in the Splendour in the Grass 2011 arts program.

2010 Participating Splendid artists will:

  • Attend a 2 week residential Arts Lab from 29 July to 13 August, 2010.
  • Acquire skills in cross-artform collaboration and creating site specific experiences.
  • Receive tickets to Splendour in the Grass 2010.
  • Participate in artist talks and forums.
  • Receive expert advice in developing a creative product that can be marketed to festivals, events and other arts organisations world-wide.
  • Be provided an opportunity to submit a proposal for a new work to be commissioned for Splendour in the Grass 2011.
  • Be given an honorarium, accommodation, travel and incidentals.
