SPLENDID TV
17 July to 28 August
Showing in the Lismore Contemporary room
Upstairs at Lismore Regional Gallery
131 Molesworth Street Lismore, NSW 2480
SplendidTV has been produced by local filmmakers Bassett DicksonVIII, Poppy Stockwell and Carli Leimbach and covers the 2009 Splendid Arts Lab and developmental stages of the program.
Come to Lismore Regional Gallery to view the footage of when 10 emerging artists; Alice Lang, Kristy Ayre, Carl Scrase, Shakthi Sivanathan, Mish Grigor, Dario Vacirca, Lachlan Tetlow-Stuart, Lauren Brincat, Daniel Tanner and Dominic Finlay-Jones came together in Lismore with 10 established artists and mentors to collaborate, discuss, debate and initiate cutting edge artistic projects to be presented at Splendour in the Grass 2010. The filmmakers then followed two of the artists on their journey to creating their largest work to date – a giant 23m staircase.
Viewers will see the artists gathering in Lismore where the seeds of ideas and projects were germinated. Artists are then followed as they begin the construction phase on their projects; The Best Time Ever, The Generative Power of Opposites and Where the Party Is exploring how they will create an impact on the 30,000 festival goers at Splendour in the Grass.
SPLENDID MASTER CLASSES
Splendid will co-present a master class with NORPA hosted by two senior artists from the 2010 Arts Lab. The Masterclass will investigate contemporary theatre practice and multi-art form collaboration. The full day workshop will explore physical performance in relation to space and in particular site specific installation for performance, where visual arts defines the theatre space. The workshops are free for committed artists in the Northern Rivers region. Visual artists, performers, sound and new media artists are encouraged to attend. This is an open workshop but you must register. Spaces are limited to a maximum of 15 participants. The Splendid Master Classes are part of NORPA’s Generator Program. NORPA is major partner of the Splendid program.

MASTER CLASS 1: SITE SPECIFIC DESIGN WITH JEFF KHAN
Tuesday 10 August
9am to 1pm
NORPA, Lismore City Hall

How does ‘the space’ inform ‘the context’ for performance and how do the visual arts connect with contemporary theatre making? This master class will focus on how artists use alternative spaces and then create work responding to that environment. This workshop will explore NORPA’s performance spaces and is aimed at more experienced artists who want to integrate their skills into the performance arena. Jeff Khan is a curator and writer, and Artistic Director of Next Wave. For the 2008 festival, Khan oversaw the development and delivery of a multidisciplinary program, which included 61 projects and nearly 400 artists from diverse artforms and backgrounds, from around Australia and abroad.

CARL SCRASE: THE GENERATIVE POWER OF OPPOSITES
Tuesday 3 August
Viewable all day, Artist talk at 5pm
Lismore Regional Gallery
131 Molesworth Street Lismore, NSW 2480
The Generative Power of Opposites is one of the 2010 Splendid commissions and will be premiering at Splendour in the Grass this year. After the festival the work is travelling to Lismore to be installed outside Lismore Regional Gallery for one day only. We would like to issue an open invitation to come and meet the artist, Carl Scrase and join him in an artist talk from 5pm.
Big is not always better, but in the case of a music festival, scale does matter. Splendid artist, Carl Scrase considered this context when developing his 14 metre high inflatable sculpture, simultaneously giving the peace and up yours symbols. From wherever you are in relation to this work, it will speak to you in very different ways.
